About jac Ceramics

Hi! I’m Jennelle and my passion is clay. Since I threw my first bowl I have been hooked. I took my first pottery/art class with friends in high school. I graduated from Florida State University in 2000 with degrees in art and music. After graduating I worked at an art supply store where I met an established artist who had a broken down kiln. I jumped at the chance to repair it. A few months later, I bought a used pottery wheel. Even though I did not have the room back then to work or a place to put my new ‘toys’, I knew then that clay would be a part of my life. It would be 4 years of the kiln and wheel to be moved from apartments to storage, until my husband and I bought a house. For the next couple of years I taught oral deaf children, but as much as I loved teaching, my heart led me back to pottery. I used to work in my garage after long days of teaching. In the fall of 2006 my husband and I decided it was time for me to chase my dream and start jac Ceramics, Inc.

Even though I work hard in my studio to produce goods to sell, I still have a passion for teaching my friends and family they can also create and construct something beautiful. It amazes me the hesitation that overtakes one who thinks it impossible to create beauty. Then, after the fact, the wonder and excitement they feel to take their creation home with them and show it off, is what motivates me to teach.

Whether it’s thrown on the potter’s wheel, handbuilding or sculpting, I enjoy everything about clay. Now that I have my own studio (which used to be a garage) I feel my abilities are limitless. I continue to be inspired by nature and other artists while experimenting with colors and design. I have also found it to be important to take notes and advice when my friends and family offer their ideas. I have so much support from my husband, family and friends. More importantly, I owe many thanks to those who received my earliest works of pottery and still display them proudly in their homes, as lopsided and crummy as they are…

I’m living my dream, thank you for being a part of it.
